Across the Pond

What better time than now as our fall weather approaches and the days become shorter, and a little cooler, to take you on a trip with me across the pond. I often get asked what it is like in England, and well it's funny how things pop up in your personal feed, memories and photos, and they immediately transport you back to a different place and time. That's what happened today as I was working my way through another batch of winter soap and catching up on business things on social media. All of a sudden there was a photo of one of my favorite places from back home. In an instant I was reminded that it was just a year ago that we were blessed to be able to get back to England as a family. It had been ten years since we had been able to take the children back and I couldn't believe that we were able to do it again. I thought I would take the time to introduce you to a few of my favorite places.

The first place has to be where the photo above was taken. A place I spent a lot of time as a child, a place that immediately calms my anxious heart. The sound of the waves crashing on the sand and pebbles, or during high tide against the promenade. Whitley Bay Beach and St. Mary's Lighthouse.

There is nothing quite like a walk along the sandy beach with the sound of the waves. It is a beautiful place. A place we went to a lot as a family. It was amazing to be able to take our children there and see them enjoy a place that is very near and dear to my heart.

Keswick, in the Lake District, is another place that is always on my list of places to visit and things to do when I get back home. We would visit there occasionally as I was growing up, we would hike the hills, feed the ducks at Derwent Water, and visit the village sweety shop to restock for the holidays! Another great place that the whole family enjoyed visiting on our trip over.

Sheep in most of the fields and hills. Definitely something I found strange when I moved to the country here in the States and there was a serious lack of sheep. Although, I cannot really complain as our fields are filled with goats!

The village center, and the home of the famous Ye Olde Friars sweet shop! Literally wall to wall delicacies, chocolates, gifts, preserves ....

Then of course there was the train trip from Newcastle to Edinburgh to visit Edinburgh Castle. This was pretty spectacular not only the train journey through the countryside but the view from the castle over Edinburgh was amazing.

You had to stop and listen to the bagpipes!

This last time as I visited with my sister from Germany, we took a trip with Mum and Dad to Morpeth. A place I had not been to for years. The buildings in England are so very different from what we have here. I loved this photo taken along the river and the reflections in the water.

Of course, a trip home would not be complete without a taste of some of the oh so missed cuisine! The infamous fish and chips. Although, they have never quite tasted as good since they stopped serving them (years ago) straight out of a newspaper!

How about Sunday dinner with of course, Yorkshire puddings! It took me several years to master Yorkshire puddings here in the States, but now that I have, the whole family loves them! I joke on with our kids that I am not going to give them the recipe so that they will come home to visit. Their response..... 'there's always google'!!!!

No trip home would be complete without Cadbury's chocolate and this time around we also tried the Scottish pop Irn-Bru - I'm sorry I have no idea how to explain this pop to you!

I must admit that we all left a little extra room in our suitcases to bring home some English chocolate! It of course did not last very long!

A little piece of my heart to share with you on this fall day. Thanks for coming on this trip down memory lane with me.
