I found myself realizing that as a family we had taken care of our soap, our lotion, and yet I found myself washing my hair with a chemical laden shampoo. Several weeks later as I yet again contemplated this, a few people began to ask whether we had yet thought of, or had, branched out into hair care products. This was my wake-up call. Why not?
It's not quite as easy as just deciding to do something. I began to research, and research. We are on well water, and I know that our hair is dry and damaged from the harshness of the minerals in our water. So, I decided to start there. My research began with oils that would be beneficial to dry and damaged hair. Oils that would naturally replace what was lacking, oils that would enhance the quality of our hair, moisturize, clean, and leave it feeling soft and silky smooth. I wanted to use essential oils that not only added a quality of fragrance but also were beneficial to our hair, enhancing the overall shampoo experience. During my research, it came to light, that in order to gain the full benefit of a shampoo bar, it is best to follow that with a conditioner. There began another journey to bring to our goat milk skin care community a product that would enhance and complete the hair care experience.
After several weeks of research our Ylang Ylang goat milk shampoo bar was well on its way to curing and being ready for use. I fully prepared myself for the fact that my hair may well go through a transitional period as it detoxed from the store-bought brands and came around to the all-natural path that I was taking (as had been mentioned in several research documents I had read. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I did not have to go through this period). (I know this is not the case for all and would encourage you to keep going as this can take anywhere from a few days to three weeks.) I was amazed at the luxuriously moisturizing effect of the shampoo bar. It lathers beautifully, giving you a full rich lather, as you rub the shampoo into your scalp it also helps moisturize right down to the roots.
